Mothers are Special

The last two weeks have been difficult for me and my family. We lost my grandmother, my mom’s mom, last week. It was a very sad time, but also a joyous time. She has gone home to be with the Lord, but we will miss her greatly.

I learned a lot from my ‘memma’. I guess my favorite lessons learned were in the garden. I love to grow flowers and vegetables. Memma was an amazing gardener. She seemed to have a ‘green thumb’. She taught me pretty much everything I know about growing things.

This coming Sunday is Mother’s Day here in the USA. I know it will be hard for my mom. She was very close to my grandmother and loved her very much. She spent a lot of time with her the past couple of years as “memma” developed Alzheimer’s disease. It was very difficult watching her mind change and seeing a very independent woman become so dependent.

I plan on spending all day Sunday with my mom. She is very special to me. She is a close friend, a spiritual mentor, my biggest supporter and my precious ‘mom’.

I am so blessed and thankful for my mom and my grandmomma. They are each a very big part of who I am today.

If your mom is still living today and you are able, spend some time with her this weekend. Reminisce about days gone by. Share some favorite memories with one another. Tell her how much you love her and how special she is to you.
