Learning Useful Skills Around the Home : A Kristi Kreme Post

Our family lives in an old apple orchard. My parents live across the street from us on a gravel road. My parents own forty-four acres around us and we own about four acres around our house. Needless to say we have A LOT of grass to cut during the spring, summer and fall.
Our teen boys have found that grass cutting pays pretty good. When our oldest son was still home, he did the entire big lawn mower cutting. My sixteen year old son now does the big lawn mower cutting, while my fourteen year old son does the weed-eating and push mower work.
They have a pretty good system going, as long as the weather cooperates. Each week they keep the grass cut around both houses, by the pond and cabin, and up and down the sides of the road. My husband still likes riding the tractor and doing the bush-hogging, so the boys haven’t started that task yet. Who knows maybe one day they will do that job too.
Anyway, it has been a good experience for each of them. They have learned what hard work is and how it can pay off. They have also learned how expensive it can be with the gas prices going up every day. There have been many lessons learned, especially when the lawn mower accidentally slid into the pond!!
Encourage your Entrepreneurs to try hard work, of the physical kind! The experience gained will enhance anything else they may be working on.
